How to Take a Screenshot on Windows 11
Windows 11 offers several screenshot methods, and which one to use depends on whether you want the whole screen, a specific window, or just a selected area.
Win + Shift + S (recommended for most cases)
This opens the Snipping Tool overlay, letting you choose a rectangular area, a specific window, or the full screen. The image is copied to your clipboard, and Windows also shows a notification you can click to edit or save it.
Print Screen (PrtScn)
Pressing this key alone copies the entire screen to your clipboard, which you can then paste into an image editor or document. On many Windows 11 setups, it also opens the Snipping Tool directly, depending on your settings.
Win + PrtScn
This captures the full screen and automatically saves it as a file in your Pictures > Screenshots folder, without needing to paste it anywhere.
Alt + PrtScn
Captures only the currently active window instead of the whole screen, useful when you don't want your desktop or other open windows included.
Capturing something too tall for one screenshot
None of these methods capture a scrolling page automatically. For that, take several screenshots while scrolling down, then combine them into one tall image afterward.
